Fish Farming

Uganda

Uganda has a population of approximately 26.7 million people.  With a substantial unemployment rate and 35% of the population living below the national poverty line, previous policies on poverty eradication have proven ineffective and have just increased the level of those unable to sustain themselves.

In addition, a report by the Ugandan Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (LVEMP – Aug. 2005), states that the lake is dying.  Fewer fish in the lake only exacerbate the issue of hunger and poverty by making it more difficult for the local population to feed themselves.

Outreach to Africa will develope fish farming models that provide fast and sustainable economic growth which, leads to the increased ability of communities to raise their incomes and have a better quality of life.
