) Sports Facilities / Recreation Centers
In the spirit of “Making a difference one Community at a time”, Outreach to Africa has partnered with Athletes International Ministry, Alpha Omega International and Reaching Children Ministry to develop sports and recreational centers for communities and schools.
Some of the community benefits of such centers are:
· Economic impact from visitors
· Stimulation of other development (spin-off businesses)
· Enhanced community image and visibility
On an individual level, the opportunity to participate in sporting activities has been shown to positively impact children in the following ways:
· High school girls who play sports are less likely to be involved in an unwanted pregnancy; more likely to get better grades in school and more likely to graduate than girls who do not play sports.
· Children who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self esteem and lower levels of depression.
· Children who play sports have a more positive body image and experience higher states of psychological well-being than children who do not play sports.
· Sports are where children have traditionally learned about teamwork, goal-setting, the pursuit of excellence in performance and other achievement-oriented behaviors -- critical skills necessary for success in the workplace.
