Hospitals, Medical & Diagnostic Centers
A) MEDICAL OUTREACH, UGANDA
Outreach To Africa received a container full of medical equipment worth 1 million dollars donated by hospitals in the UK through Tavistock Community Church, Devon, UK and cash donations from friends in the USA. Outreach to Africa has established one Medical Center and are in the process of opening a Diagnostic Center in Fort Portal. There is also a 4 wheel drive ambulance waiting to be shipped from UK to Uganda for use at our medical centers.
B) OTA MEDICAL CENTER, RWEBISENGO VILLAGE - Western Uganda Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwebisengo has a population of about 30,000. There are large numbers of refugees, who ran away from Congo due to the ethnic warfare, living in this village as well.
HIV/AIDS is also a major challenge here and there is no major help right now.
The nearest hospitals are in Fort Portal town - 45 miles away. It is a 3-hour drive on a dry day and several when it rains due to bad roads.
Outreach to Africa has rented a 19-bedroom motel and turned it into a medical center equipped with a laboratory, pharmacy, maternity and private rooms for general patients.
We treat approximately 5,000 patients and deliver 300 babies a year. We have employed 1 doctor, 1 Medical Assistant, 1 Midwife, 1 Nurse/Dispenser, I Receptionist, 1 Custodian, 1 Security Officer, 1 Laboratory Technician and a resident Chaplain.
C) DIAGNOSTIC CENTER & CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
We have a full body x-ray machine, a microscope and an ECG machine, however they all need additional gear in order to be operational. We also need an ultrasound machine. Local doctors in Fort Portal have urged us to provide a diagnostic center because what is currently available is not adequate. A surgeon there tells us that he has to operate not knowing what lies beneath the skin!
The city has given us land to build a diagnostic center and a children's hospital which are much needed. |
