 Living Hope Nursery & Primary School
Nateete, Uganda
Although many have heard about the orphan situation in Uganda, few realize that education is the only hope they have for a better future. Unfortunately, too many of these children have limited access to the opportunities available. No one organization can handle all their needs. It is team-work that will make it happen.
 In conjunction with Harbor Trinity Church, Costa Mesa, CA, Outreach to Africa began a free education program in Nateete, a slum area just outside of Kampala City in Uganda. There are hundreds of orphans who are not able to go to school due to lack of funds. They all live with relatives.
In March 2003, our team visited the church and found that 5 classrooms met under one roof in different corners of the church. They did not have desks. All they had were benches and chalk boards. There were 72 children altogether and 5 teachers.
 For lunch each child receives just a cup of hot cereal made out of millet and water.
 Since the school did not fit the standards required by the Ministry of Education, The Pastor was given a few months’ notice to close down the school or build separate classrooms.
 Outreach to Africa has since built temporary classrooms to provide nursery and primary level education for orphans by paying the salaries of the teachers. Currently there are 195 children enrolled with many more on the waiting list. The children need urgent help to upgrade the facilities.
Additional funding is needed to build a permanent elementary school.
