 Adult Literacy
Uganda & Democratic Republic of Congo
Although strides have been made in adult literacy in sub-Saharan Africa, there are still over 140 million adults, approximately 40% of the population, on the continent who are illiterate (31.8% male, 48.2% female – UNESCO 2004) At the current rate of progress with the various issues on the continent, these figures are estimated to increase unless major efforts are made to improve the quality of basic education and eradicate illiteracy.
 Outreach to Africa has developed creative and relevant applications, through individual sponsorship, to place adults into existing literacy training programs. |
